Superintendent

Dr. Eric J. Becoats

Dear William Penn Community,

Welcome to 2024! As we embark on a new year, I am optimistic and excited about the opportunities and possibilities that await us. I want to reflect on the incredible progress we have made together and express my unwavering commitment to providing our students with the world-class education they deserve.

In 2023, we implemented much-needed upgrades to district buildings, officially opened and renamed Kerr Field to the Rap Curry Athletic Complex Kerr Field, we launched our Community Capital Campaign seeking funds to help upgrade and maintain district facilities, and held the district’s first-ever State of Schools event. This event highlighted the progress of the hard-working students of our district and showcased some of the student’s talents in the arts. We are looking forward to making more improvements to district facilities in 2024 and beyond.

I am filled with excitement for the possibilities that lie ahead. Our district holds a clear vision, dedicated to empowering our students with the essential skills and knowledge to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens.

To achieve this vision, we will continue to focus on the following priorities:

  1. Academic Excellence – Review and examine the District’s academic programming, to include processes, programs, protocols, and structures that promote academic growth.
  2. Cohesiveness – Partner with families, communities, and public organizations to foster shared ownership of schools and collectively create opportunities for student success.
  3. Efficiency and Effectiveness – Demonstrate financial accountability and an ethic of care for students and staff.

Home and School Association Involvement

As the school year continues, I encourage you to get involved in the Home and School Association (HSA) at your student(s)’ schools. This is a great way to support their education and make a positive impact on your school community. HSAs provide parents and guardians with a valuable opportunity to:

  • Stay informed about school activities and events.
  • Connect with other parents and guardians.
  • Support the school’s staff and administration.
  • Volunteer your time and talents.
  • Advocate for your child’s needs.
  • Make a difference in your child’s school.

Even a small amount of your time can make a big difference. Thank you for your support!

Parent-Teacher Conferences Will Take Place on March 7-8
Parent-teacher conferences are a crucial opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss their academic progress, social development, and any concerns or questions you may have. This year’s conferences will be held on March 7-8 and there will be no school for students on those days. Here are some reasons why you should attend:

  • Get to know your child’s teacher. This is a great opportunity to build a relationship with your child’s teacher and learn more about their teaching style and expectations.
  • Discuss your child’s academic progress. You can discuss your child’s strengths and weaknesses in specific subjects and work together with the teacher to develop a plan to help them succeed.
  • Address any concerns. If you have any concerns about your child’s behavior, social development, or learning, you can discuss them with the teacher and develop a plan to address these concerns.
  • Stay informed about upcoming events. You can learn about upcoming school events, such as field trips and parent-teacher organization meetings.

Here are some tips for preparing for your conference:

  • Review your child’s report card. This will give you a good starting point for the discussion.
  • Make a list of questions. This will help you remember to discuss everything that is important to you.
  • Think about your child’s goals. What are your hopes for your child’s academic and social development?
  • Bring a positive attitude. This is an opportunity to collaborate with the teacher to help your child succeed.

We encourage all parents and guardians to attend parent-teacher conferences. It is a valuable opportunity to stay involved in your child’s education and help them reach their full potential.

Spring Recess
Spring Recess will take place from March 25-29, 2024, and there will be no school for students. District offices will be closed on Friday, March 29.

Thank you for taking the time to read this important information. I wish you all the best in 2024!

Sincerely,

Dr. Eric J. Becoats
