Incredible honor for Kivaleon Clarke `24 as he was named the All-Delco Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year!
"Head coach Lenny Jordan has developed a bundle of track stars at Penn Wood and West Catholic high schools.
None are quite like Kivaleon Clarke. In just his second season of varsity track, Clarke came within a hop, skip and jump of toppling Leroy Burrell’s seemingly unbreakable triple jump record of 49 feet, 3 inches, which was set in the mid-1980’s at Penn Wood.
For Clarke, particularly considering the brief training time, there is no shame in ranking a notch below Burrell in the all-time Patriots record book with a triple jump of 48-10.5, which is what Clarke notched in the New Balance Nationals meet after soaring 48-2.75 to finish second and win silver at the PIAA Class 3A championships in Shippensburg.
“We’ve had three or four triple jumpers make states,” said Jordan, coach of the Patriots track team since 2006.
“Kivaleon is our first All-American, All-State, All-Delco jumper. We tried to roll the clock back a little bit with him. If we had had a little more time with him, I think we probably could have gotten 50 feet.”
Jordan chats regularly with Burrell, the ridiculous talent who in 1985 was named the Eastern Track Athlete of the Year after scoring all 40 of Penn Wood’s points to lead the school to the PIAA state team championship. Burrell won gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters, and the long and triple jumps. After a sensational career with Houston, he became an international superstar as the “World’s Fastest Human,” twice breaking the 100-meter dash world record, and frequently shared headlines with Carl Lewis.
Clarke on the other hand made a name for himself in May with gold medals in the triple and long jumps at the PIAA District 1 Class 3A championships at Coatesville. Clarke’s PR of 22-6 took top honors in the long jump and woke the jumping world.
That’s why Clarke is the 2024 Daily Times Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year."
Way to go, Kivaleon! Good luck at @kingscollegepa ! #PennWoodProud

After winning the District 1 title and placing second at the PIAA State Championships in the triple jump, Kivaleon Clarke extended his season by competing in the New Balance Nationals on June 15 at Franklin Field. Competing against the top triple jumpers throughout the nation, Kivaleon jumped 48-10 ¾ and placed fourth overall. This jump was another personal best and earned him All-American honors.
Kivaleon will compete in both track and field and football at King’s College. Good luck! #PWHSproud #NBNationals
