Members of the Penn Wood High School DECA club joined their peers from around the region to learn, collaborate, and make unforgettable memories at @pa_deca Career Day with the @sixers on November 20th.
They heard from industry leaders about careers in sports, tackled a real-world case study, and connected with professionals and students from across the region.
A standout moment came when Penn Wood’s own Ryanna Collins and Fanta Kamara were chosen to high-five the Toronto Raptors as the players ran through the tunnel — an exciting experience!
Thanks to club moderator Ms. Chassidy King for organizing this opportunity for our students, and Ms. Dana Mirgliano for helping to chaperone! It was a great day of learning and leadership for our Patriots!

Ms. Rivera’s 6th-grade class at East Lansdowne Elementary took a hands-on approach to reviewing Numeric & Algebraic Expressions. Focusing on the order of operations, students participated in a "Math Surgeon" simulation. The goal was to save their turkeys.
Equipped with scrubs ordered from Amazon and ID badges created in Canva, the students worked through a series of math problems. Accuracy was key. Each correct solution allowed them to secure a piece of a turkey (feathers, feet, body, beak, etc.) to complete the procedure. This method provided a structured yet interactive way to reinforce what they are currently learning.
