Lansdowne, PA – January 3, 2025
As the winter season is upon us, we want to ensure that the WPSD community is aware of our procedures for communicating about school closures, delays, or early dismissals due to inclement weather. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we aim to make and share decisions as early and clearly as possible.
When Are Decisions Made?
Our team carefully monitors weather conditions and forecasts. If a weather event is expected to impact school operations, we aim to make a final decision about closures or delays by 5:00 a.m. on the affected day. In the case of an early dismissal, the decision will be made during the school day as conditions warrant.
How Will You Be Notified?
If a school closure, delay, or early dismissal is necessary, we will notify staff and families through the following channels:
- ParentSquare: Notifications will be sent via phone call, text message, email, and the app. Please ensure that your contact information is up to date in ParentSquare.
- District Website: Updates will be posted as a banner and news story.
- Social Media: Announcements will be shared on our official Facebook, Instagram, X, and Bluesky accounts.
- Local News Stations: Closure or delay information will be shared with CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, and PHL17.
What If Schools Remain Open?
If weather conditions improve, and a closure or delay is no longer necessary, no communication will be sent.
How Does This Affect Transportation Services?
The WPSD school closing applies to all students who use WPSD transportation. Therefore, all WPSD buses serving both public and non-public schools operate on the same schedule. If there is a delay or closing for District schools, it also applies to the transportation for the non-public school students.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we navigate the winter weather season together. Stay safe and warm!
