Lansdowne, PA – June 6, 2024

Dear WPSD community,

You have probably heard by now that a crossing guard hired by Darby Borough is being charged with providing drugs to a Penn Wood Middle School student. We are extremely disappointed that someone who is supposed to help our community has betrayed the trust of those they serve. Although this person is not one of our employees, they have created harm in our community, and that is not ok.

We are here to educate, support, and provide the best for our students as they navigate their journey from childhood to adulthood. Actions like these should never be part of that. We are working with our administrators and staff to provide assistance to those affected, as needed.

This occurrence is another reminder that it truly takes a village. If you see something amiss, please report it immediately. Students should also be encouraged to do the same. Additionally, we are working on some partnerships to help reinforce anti-drug use messages that we will launch in the 2024-2025 school year.
