Lansdowne, PA – November 12, 2024
Penn Wood tenth-grade students recently experienced an exciting educational outing to Hedgerow Theatre in Media, PA, where they attended “Tales from Poe,” a theatrical adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tales. This performance directly aligned with the first marking period’s curriculum, in which students studied Poe’s works and wrote essays exploring the appeal of fear in storytelling.
Thanks to a partnership established by ELA teacher Ms. Jess Watson, the students attended the play over three trips, all free of charge. Through her efforts, Hedgerow Theatre generously donated $4,500 to cover the costs of this unique experience. After the performance, students had the chance to engage with the actors in a thoughtful discussion, comparing the theatrical version with Poe’s original stories.
This enriching experience brought Edgar Allan Poe’s stories to life for the students, giving them a chance to connect their classroom studies with live theater.
