Focus Forward and Beyond: Our Portrait of a Graduate
The Portrait of a Graduate is William Penn School District’s bold, student-centered vision for what we want every graduate to know, be, and do by the time they leave our schools. Rooted in our community’s values and our commitment to student success, it reflects the essential skills, habits, and mindsets our students need to thrive—whether in college, a career, or any path they choose.
This vision will guide our teaching, learning, and leadership at every level, shaping instruction, culture, and decision-making across the district.
Why It Matters
The Portrait of a Graduate provides a shared goal for educators, families, and community partners. It reflects our belief that a well-rounded education should prepare students not only to succeed—but to lead, innovate, and inspire. As we implement our new strategic plan, Focus Forward and Beyond, this portrait will help ensure that every William Penn student is prepared for what comes next.
Student Voice at the Center: Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council
The development of the Portrait of a Graduate was guided by the voices of those who matter most—our students. This year, the William Penn School District launched its inaugural Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, bringing together a diverse group of student leaders from across the district. These students played a central role in shaping the Portrait’s six attributes, ensuring that each one reflects the lived experiences, aspirations, and hopes of the William Penn student body.
Their insights and contributions helped ground the Portrait in authenticity and purpose, creating a vision of success that speaks to what students need now and in the future. This collaboration exemplifies the district’s belief that student growth drives achievement—and reaffirms our commitment to listening to and learning from our students as we move Focus Forward and Beyond.
