Community Update from the William Penn School District

Lansdowne, PA – December 14, 2025

Dear William Penn School District community,

We are writing to share information regarding an incident that occurred late Friday evening, December 12, following the Penn Wood High School boys’ basketball game.

While the incident took place off campus and after the conclusion of the game, we have been informed that it involved at least one current student and one alumnus. According to Lansdowne Police, an altercation between two groups in the surrounding community escalated into gunfire. One individual was injured and remains in critical condition. The incident is currently under active investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.

The safety and well being of our students, staff, and school community remain our highest priority. In response, the William Penn School District security team is working in close coordination with the Lansdowne Police Department to increase security presence and support at Penn Wood High School throughout this week. As an additional precaution, Saturday’s girls basketball game was limited to parents only and closed to general spectators.

As we await further information from law enforcement, our focus remains on providing a safe, supportive, and reassuring environment for our students, staff, and families. School administrators and support staff are available to assist students who may be impacted by this news, and we encourage families to reach out to their school if their child needs additional support.

We appreciate your partnership and trust as we continue to prioritize safety across the district. Should additional confirmed information become available, we will share updates with our community as appropriate.

Thank you.
