Lansdowne, PA – January 11, 2024
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Penn Wood High School’s Home and School Association is teaming up with the Rap’s Athl-Eats Program to host a toiletry drive for the school’s resource pantry. The drive aims to stock the pantry with essential hygiene products for students in need, ensuring they have access to these basic necessities throughout the year.
Providing access to essential hygiene items can be a major barrier for some students, and this helps to ensure that everyone in the William Penn school community feels supported and has what they need to succeed.
Rap’s Athl-Eats, named in honor of the late Penn Wood athletic director and Hall of Fame basketball player Rap Curry, is a student-run initiative dedicated to fighting food insecurity within the school community. By partnering with the Home and School Association, the program expands its reach beyond food to address another vital need.
The toiletry drive is accepting donations of essential items such as:
- Deodorant
- Soap or travel-size body wash (sensitive skin formula preferred)
- Washcloths
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrushes
- Travel-size mouthwash
- Sanitary napkins
- Wipes
- Blistex/chapstick
- Hair care products
Donations can be dropped off at Penn Wood High School-GAC during school hours this week, or on January 15th between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The community is encouraged to come together and support this important initiative, honoring the legacy of Dr. King through acts of service and care.
This drive embodies the spirit of Dr. King’s message of service and community. By providing these essential items, Raps Athl-EATS is helping to create a more equitable and supportive environment for all students at Penn Wood.
