William Penn School District Launches Portrait of a Graduate Initiative

October 3, 2025 – Lansdowne, PA

The William Penn School District is excited to launch a new district-wide initiative that brings the Portrait of a Graduate to life in classrooms and schools.

The Portrait of a Graduate, a cornerstone of the district’s strategic plan Focus Forward and Beyond (adopted in April 2025), defines the qualities and skills every WPSD student should develop from kindergarten through graduation. Created in collaboration with the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, it outlines six key attributes. During this school year, each month will spotlight one attribute, providing a focused framework to guide student growth and reflection across all grade levels.

  • October: Driven Achiever
  • November: Optimistic Visionary
  • January: Ethical Leader
  • February: Innovative Thinker
  • March: Effective Communicator
  • April: Hardworking Contributor

To support the rollout, staff have received a toolkit of resources and activities to help integrate the attributes into lessons and school culture. In addition, Superintendent Dr. Eric Becoats and members of the Student Advisory Council will visit schools throughout the year to engage students in conversations about what the Portrait means in practice. A culminating video will highlight the many ways students are bringing the attributes to life.

Families and community members are invited to follow the journey on the Portrait of a Graduate webpage and through district updates. Staff are encouraged to share stories, photos, and projects that illustrate the monthly themes, helping to celebrate and showcase the Portrait of a Graduate in action.
