Lansdowne, PA – June 12, 2025

On Thursday, May 29, the William Penn School District’s music community came together for an evening of talent and recognition at the 3rd Annual Jazz & Dessert Night, hosted at Penn Wood Middle School.

The event featured performances by the high school jazz band, showcasing the musical growth and creativity of students under the direction of the district’s dedicated music educators. Among the evening’s highlights was a featured performance by Kehinde and Taiwo Mogaji, twin musicians whose skill and passion have been a consistent part of the district’s band program.

The night was also a time to honor student leadership and achievement. Two major awards were presented:

  • Taiwo Mogaji received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, which recognizes outstanding musical achievement and dedication to the art of jazz.
  • Kehinde Mogaji was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award, the highest honor for leadership and excellence in the school’s band program.

In addition to the awards, the audience was the first to hear the announcement of the 2025 Marching Band show theme, a moment that generated excitement for the upcoming season. The new student leadership team for the 2024–25 school year was also introduced:

  • Nia’Mora Roberts, Senior Drum Major
  • Lahmae Hampton, Percussion Leader
  • Eva Nabried-Coles, Brass Leader
  • Alishah Poole, Woodwinds Leader

The Jazz & Dessert Night continues to grow each year, celebrating the accomplishments of student musicians while bringing families and staff together to support the arts. The combination of music, student recognition, and community spirit made for a memorable evening.

Plans are already underway for next year’s 4th Annual Jazz & Dessert Night, which promises to continue the tradition of excellence and celebration within the William Penn music community.
