Lansdowne, PA – April 25, 2025
The William Penn School District (WPSD) is celebrating a boost to its food service program thanks to a generous donation of $8,792.01 from GIANT Food Stores. The funds were raised through GIANT’s “Feeding School Kids” initiative, which allowed customers to round up their grocery purchases to the nearest dollar. GIANT matched those customer donations, amplifying the community’s support for local students.
Representatives from the Lansdowne and Aldan GIANT stores, Chantel Carter and Siobhan Strickland, were present to announce the donation. They were joined by WPSD Chief of Operations, Darnell Deans, Aramark Assistant Director of Food Service for WPSD, Karen Beal, and administrative support workers Nicole Searcy and Antoinette Ames, who gratefully accepted the contribution on behalf of the district.
The “Feeding School Kids” initiative provides vital support to school districts, helping to improve the equipment necessary to prepare and store nutritious meals for students. The donation will benefit WPSD students and the dedicated food service staff who provide them with healthy and appealing options.
“We are incredibly grateful to GIANT and the many generous customers who chose to round up their purchases,” said Mr. Deans. “This significant donation will allow us to acquire and upgrade the necessary equipment to better prepare and store nutritious food, benefiting our students’ ability to succeed.”
The William Penn School District extends its sincere appreciation to everyone in the community who participated in the “Feeding School Kids” initiative by rounding up their purchases at the register. This collective effort demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting WPSD students and the district’s food service team. The funds will undoubtedly positively impact the lives of countless students within the district.
