The talented voices of Penn Wood High School’s choir program resonated at Immaculata University on April 1st, as 35 students from grades 9 through 12 participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Choral Music Performance Assessment. Marking the program’s first appearance at this prestigious event in over twenty years, the students delivered performances that earned them strong ratings and accolades.

Representing Penn Wood with pride, the choir impressed the adjudication panel, securing ratings of both “Proficient” and “Advanced” for their musical prowess. Beyond their captivating performances, the students garnered praise from event staff and attendees for their respectful and engaged demeanor throughout the day.

The PMEA District Assessment offered the Penn Wood students a valuable opportunity for growth and learning. In addition to showcasing their talents, they had the chance to witness the performances of five other local high schools. A particular highlight of the day was a 15-minute clinic led by Dr. Justin Cates of Temple University, an experience that proved inspiring for all the participating students.

The return to the PMEA District Choral Music Performance Assessment signifies a significant step forward for the Penn Wood choir program. Choir director Mr. Patrick Hein expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements. He stated, “We are so happy with how they performed and are excited for future opportunities to get out and perform outside of our school. Stay tuned for future performance dates!”

This successful outing underscores the dedication and talent within the Penn Wood music department. It hints at a bright future filled with more opportunities for these young musicians to share their passion and artistry with the broader community.
