Lansdowne, PA – May 15, 2025
The talented students of Penn Wood High School’s performing arts program have earned significant recognition from the Cappies, the Critics and Awards Program for High School Theatre, receiving four nominations for their outstanding work in this year’s production of The Wiz. WPSD is thrilled with this achievement, which follows a successful previous year that saw ten nominations and three wins.
The 2025 Cappies nominations specifically recognize the following performances:
- Best Comedic Actor: Emmanuel James for his performance as Scarecrow (nominated in the same category last year!)
- Best Solo Dancer: Jade Murray-McKenney
- Best Supporting Actor in a Male Role: Morgan Askew-Green for her role as The Wiz
- Best Lead Actor in a Male Role: Gabriel Beckett for his role as Tinman (nominated in the same category last year as Seymore Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors!)
These nominations are a testament to their talent, hard work, dedication, and the strength of the school’s performing arts program.
The annual Cappies Gala, a prestigious event celebrating excellence in high school theatre, will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Upper Darby High School at 4:30 p.m. This provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to support and celebrate the accomplishments of these talented young performers and their work on The Wiz.
Additional details regarding the Cappies Gala, including information about ticket purchases, will be shared as the event date approaches. Penn Wood High School expresses its sincere appreciation for the continued support of its performing arts program.
