Penn Wood High School Honors Dr. King with Day of Service

Lansdowne, PA / January 7, 2026

Penn Wood High School will honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting a Day of Service on Monday, January 19. The event will bring together students, staff, and volunteers to support families across the William Penn School District.

In partnership with the Rap’s Athl-EATS Food Pantry, participants will assemble hygiene kits for students and families in need. This service project reflects Dr. King’s belief that meaningful change begins with service, compassion, and community involvement.

The Day of Service will take place at Penn Wood High School from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In advance of the event, the school is collecting donations of travel-size hygiene items to create kits distributed through the food pantry. Click here to see the list of requested donation items.

“This Day of Service gives our school community an opportunity to honor Dr. King’s legacy in a meaningful way,” said Joseph Cuff-Wright, school social worker and founder of the Rap’s Athl-EATS Food Pantry. “By working together to support our students and families, we are reinforcing the values of compassion, service, and unity that Dr. King championed.”

Community members are encouraged to support the initiative by donating travel-size hygiene items, which may be dropped off at Penn Wood High School through January 19, or by volunteering on the day of the event. Those interested in volunteering may scan the QR code on the event flyer or use this sign-up link. In the event of inclement weather, the Day of Service will be rescheduled for Saturday, January 24.

Penn Wood High School remains committed to fostering a culture of service and civic responsibility, ensuring that Dr. King’s message of service above self continues to inspire future generations.
