Lansdowne, PAJune 3, 2025

Penn Wood High School’s performing arts program continues to make its mark on the regional theatre scene! At the 2025 Cappies Gala held on Sunday, June 1, at Upper Darby High School, two of Penn Wood’s talented students earned major honors for their work in this year’s production of The Wiz.

Jade Murray-McKenney took home the award for Best Solo Dancer, a well-deserved recognition of her powerful and graceful performance that wowed audiences throughout the show’s run.

Gabriel Beckett, who was nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Male Role for his portrayal of the Tin Man, was presented with the Spirit Award, which celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional dedication, leadership, and positivity within their theatre community.

These wins are a proud moment for the WPSD community and further proof of the strength, passion, and excellence that define the performing arts program.

We also want to give a huge congratulations to all of our amazing Cappies nominees:

Emmanuel James – Best Comedic Actor for his role as Scarecrow

Jade Murray-McKenney – Best Solo Dancer (Winner)

Morgan Askew-Green – Best Supporting Actor in a Male Role for her role as The Wiz

Gabriel Beckett – Best Lead Actor in a Male Role for his role as Tinman, and Spirit Award Recipient

The entire cast, crew, and production team of The Wiz should take pride in this remarkable accomplishment. Penn Wood High School and the William Penn School District commend these students for their creativity, perseverance, and excellence both on and off the stage.

We look forward to even more outstanding performances and recognition in the future. Bravo, Penn Wood Theater Club!
