Penn Wood Track & Field Win Del Val League Championships

Penn Wood High School’s track and field teams performed well at Wednesday’s Del Val League Championships at the Rap Curry Athletic Complex, Kerr Field, securing both the boys’ and girls’ team titles. The Patriots showcased their depth and talent across various events, with numerous individual champions and personal bests recorded.

The Penn Wood girls accumulated 117 points, comfortably outscoring the competition. Surreyah Crawford led the charge in the sprints, claiming gold in the 100 meters with a personal best of 12.50 seconds and the 200 meters with another personal best of 25.41 seconds. These times place her among the top 25 in Pennsylvania this season. Jenille Goring also enjoyed a stellar day, securing victories in the 1,600 meters with a personal-best time of 6:24.64 and the 800 meters in 2:36.71. Adding to the girls’ success, Krysta Lewis secured first place in the shot put with a winning throw of 37 feet.

The Penn Wood boys were equally dominant, amassing 168 points to claim their team championship. Kasir Sabree set the tone early, cruising to victory in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.59 seconds. The Patriots continued their winning ways in the hurdles as Foday Sillah captured the title in the 300-meter event. Tawpeeq Fountain took home the gold in the 400 meters, Ricky Mason triumphed in the 800 meters, and Joshua Esters outpaced the field in the 3,200 meters.

Haji Ali proved to be a standout in the jumps, winning both the long jump and the triple jump. He narrowly missed out on a third victory, finishing second in the high jump after clearing 6-2. Kevin Williams added to the Patriots’ tally with a win in the pole vault, and Khiron Clarke swept the throwing events, claiming victories in both the shot put and the discus.

With their strong showing at the league championships, Penn Wood’s athletes have positioned themselves well for the upcoming District 1 Championships. Their performances underscore the program’s strength and the dedication of its athletes.
