Lansdowne, PA – October 27, 2024
Penn Wood High School football held a special ceremony to recognize local heroes at the season’s final home football game on Saturday, October 19. This heartfelt event highlighted the contributions of four outstanding individuals who have dedicated their lives to service in various capacities within and beyond the WPSD community.
The honorees included:
- Angelic Buchanan: A proud William Penn School District employee, Buchanan is a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a Petty Officer Third Class. During her service, she held the Gas Turbine System Technician (Mechanical) position, exemplifying skill and dedication in a critical role within the Navy. Her contributions to our district continue to impact students and colleagues positively.
- Master Sergeant Earnest Tymes: Representing the Penn Wood football family, Tymes is a Master Sergeant E8 in the airborne infantry. His service record is a testament to his bravery and commitment, and the Penn Wood football community takes great pride in honoring one of their own.
- Chief Henry Giammarco: Serving as the Chief of Police in Yeadon, Chief Giammarco is a respected community leader whose dedication to public safety strengthens our neighborhoods. His unwavering commitment to service and safety has earned him a special place in the hearts of those he serves, making him a fitting honoree in this celebration.
- Principal Lamonte Popley: Representing the Chester Upland School District, Principal Popley is a leading educational figure and a role model for students and educators. His leadership and dedication to student success make him a valued member of the extended school community.
The tribute offered students, staff, and spectators a chance to pause and reflect on the incredible sacrifices made by these individuals. Penn Wood High School’s athletic director and coaching staff were instrumental in organizing the event, ensuring it was a fitting tribute to their honorees.
“These individuals inspire us daily with their commitment to making our community and our nation a better place,” said Penn Wood Athletic Director Leon Howard. “We’re honored to have had the chance to celebrate their achievements and sacrifices, both on and off the field.”
