William Penn School District to Launch New Strategic Plan: Focus Forward and Beyond

April 23, 2025 – Lansdowne, PA

The William Penn School District will officially unveil its new strategic plan, Focus Forward and Beyond, at the Board of School Directors’ business meeting on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. This forward-looking plan provides a clear framework to support student success and guide district efforts over the next three years – and beyond!

The plan was shaped by voices from across the district including students, families, educators, staff, and community members. They shared their insights and hopes for the future of William Penn schools, helping to create a plan that is responsive to real needs and grounded in shared goals.

Superintendent Dr. Eric J. Becoats said the plan represents a renewed focus on what matters most.

“Focus Forward and Beyond is about building on our strengths, addressing our challenges, and creating more opportunities for all students to grow and succeed,” said Dr. Becoats. “It reflects the ideas and priorities of our community and sets a strong direction for the years ahead.”

The plan is anchored in three strategic priorities:

  • Academic Excellence
Continually develop instructional programming that promotes growth and achievement for all students.
  • Cohesiveness
Partner with families, communities, and external organizations to foster shared ownership of schools and collectively create opportunities for student success.
  • Efficiency and Effectiveness
Demonstrate financial accountability and resourcefulness with an ethic of care for students, staff, and community.

In addition to the strategic plan, the district will also debut its new Portrait of a Graduate, a shared vision that outlines the essential skills, attributes, and mindsets students need to thrive in school, career, and life. The Portrait will serve as a touchstone for instruction, leadership, and partnerships across all grade levels.

“The Portrait of a Graduate helps define what progress and success looks like for our students,” said Dr. Becoats. “It reminds us that academic growth is vital, but we are also committed to developing confident, capable young people who are ready for the future.”

Each priority in the plan includes actionable goals and strategies, and the district will provide regular updates on its website to monitor progress and keep the community informed and engaged as the work moves forward.

Board President Monique Boykins emphasized the importance of collective ownership and collaboration.

“This plan reflects who we are as a district and what we want for our students,” said Boykins. “It was built together, and now we move forward together.”

The April 28 board meeting will feature a presentation of the plan by Dr. Becoats as well as an accompanying video. The community is invited to attend the meeting in person at the administration building (100 Green Avenue, Lansdowne) or via Zoom. Please find the link here.
